Nokia’s quest to deliver numerous low-priced Android phones continues with the Nokia 5.1 Plus set to launch in Australia for just $379.
Nokia — or to be precise, HMD Global, the folks who hold the rights to release phones under the Nokia name — has announced that the Nokia 5.1 Plus will launch in Australia from 2 November at a price point of $379 outright. Nokia first announced the Nokia 5.1 Plus back in August, so it’s taken a little while to reach our shores.
That price will score you a 5.8 inch, 18:9 720 x 1520 pixel phone running on a MediaTek Helio P60 with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. It’s packing a 3060mAh battery with charging via USB C.
On the camera front, the Nokia 5.1 Plus features dual rear lenses, with one primary 13MP f/2.0 lens backed up by a 5MP depth sensor. At the front there’s an 8MP f/2.2 selfie camera.
Like the smaller Nokia 5.1, which we’ve recently reviewed, it’s an Android One phone that will launch with Android 8.0 (“Oreo”) on board, but with 3 years of Google security updates guaranteed, as well as the next 2 full Android OS updates.
This means it’ll see both Android Pie shortly, and Android Q when that’s available in 2019. Being Android One natively, it’s also not particularly encumbered with lots of additional pre-installed apps, making it very much a blank slate for you to build from.
The Nokia 5.1 Plus will go on sale in Australia through JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman and Officeworks.
