South African drummer Aiden Makram believes that his team's inability to establish partnerships needs to be corrected before the first game of the ODI series against Australia in Perth.
The Proteas became the first team to lose to the Prime Minister's nails in five years on Wednesday night, convincingly defeating four wickets with 13 left to resell in Canberra.
The visitors were knocked down for only 173 batted at Manuka Oval, with only two Bat men beaten 40 in the defeat.
And after falling to 3-30 early, the Proteas struggled to find the momentum needed in their only warm-up match before the three-game series of a day.
"I think the most obvious is probably the creation of partnerships," Markram said.
"We have not been able to federate big partnerships tonight and you will never be able to score a big score if you do not have a partnership."
"From today, guys can see how much work remains to be done for the first ODI."
Opener Markram scored for his team with 47 out of 49 balls while David Miller also scored 45 out of 55.
But both of them crossed the border, their wickets collapsing at the worst possible time while the South Africans seemed to build a solid total.
Regarding the tourists, the hosts had only three players proud of their international experience, Jason Behrendorff being the only bowler to have played before for Australia.
However, South Africa had some positive points, including Dale Steyn, who was particularly quick in all seven goals.
Aged 35 – who played his first international match in a white ball in two years last month – scored 1-41, but deserved more as he moved the ball away from the right hands to the speed.
Kagiso Rabada also finished with 2-41, but should have had two more scalps if it was not for the non-balls who refused the wickets and turned the game.
"It's always good to see Dale swing the ball at a good speed," said Markram.
"I have no doubt that he will lead our young attack and make it enjoyable and exciting.
"I thought with the ball we were there and we were asking good questions and it's important to be able to do it for an additional 50. I thought we were ok tonight at bowling."
