Epic's Fortnite Battle Royale has been downloaded by about half of the owners of Nintendo Switch, said Nintendo's president Shuntaro Furukawa yesterday to investors.
Nintendo has now sold more than 22 million units of its hybrid console, suggesting that Fortnite would have been downloaded about 10 million times by Switch owners. Epic revealed the Switch version of Fortnite at E3 in June, and a set of brand consoles including 1,000 V-bucks has been announced in Septmeber.
"Many people continue to play the game, thus improving the overall usage rate of Nintendo Switch," Furukawa said. "Nintendo Switch is unique in that people can bring their console to communicate while playing at a friend's house or elsewhere."
Fortnite is certainly the most popular game on the eShop Switch in terms of downloads, but it is only a growing catalog. In a presentation to Nintendo's investors, Furukawa also revealed that more than 1,300 games from 500 publishers are available in stores around the world.
The Epic game should also be a driving force of the Nintendo Switch Online service, which lists the online game among its various benefits. The service was launched in September and has "gone according to expectations" in all respects except one.
According to Furukawa, more than half of the customers who paid for a subscription opted for a 12-month subscription (family or individual) rather than one of the shorter-term options. It's "more than expected," he said.
