Diablo: Immortals, calm down, it's good

I love playing Diablo III on Switch. The intense gameplay of the series works very well in shorter bursts. I'm more comfortable playing a little Diablo at bedtime than spending hours in front of my computer. I'm not surprised to see Diablo: Immortal arrive on mobile. After playing at BlizzCon 2018 in Anaheim, California, I am convinced that the decision makes sense.

The switch is only so portable. It does not fit in my pocket. But my phone does. Blizzard hopes that the engaging nature of Diablo will make it a good choice for the mobile.

And that's it.

It's always Diablo

Diablo: The infinite controls look a lot like the console versions. It simply replaces the badog stick and buttons with digital equivalents. The tactile feedback of the real buttons I miss, but everything works. I played the role of a barbarian and I had no trouble running and hitting demons with my axes.

In the demo, the abilities had recharge times but did not cost any resources like mana. Blizzard has said that this system is not locked yet. He has experienced the use of resources, cooldowns, loads and combinations of resources. I was fine not having the usual resources there. It simplifies things a bit. Diablo is not that complicated, but it was nice to have one less thing to worry about on the smaller screen. It cleans the user interface.

Speaking of user interface, it's intuitive and non-intrusive. Buttons for abilities and menus do not cover the screen too much. Using the digital badog stick instead of pointing with your finger to move your character also prevents your hand from blocking the game. You can tap the screen to retrieve the loot, but this action is fast.

Booty is an essential part of the Diablo experience. You always catch new armor and weapons. Diablo: Immortal's demo does not have the inventory menu in the game yet. Blizzard said he's still working on this feature. But a small button will appear if you take an item that is an upgrade. By clicking on it, it is immediately equipped.

Mbadive multiplayer

When traveling the world, I actually met another world. Diablo's multiplayer mode has always been based on grouping with friends. Before, you did not just see other players running. Seeing another character and knowing that there was a human behind him gives Diablo: Immortal a more MMO feel.

You can also regroup for dungeons. When you enter one, you have the option of entering alone or being paired with three other players. It's a fast way to engage in cooperative action.

Oh, everyone's crazy, I guess?

My demo was short. I did a quick tutorial, ran a little outside and fought in a dungeon. I still have a lot of questions. Blizzard does not say how Diablo: Immortal is going to monetize, so I'm wary of unwelcome microtransactions. But Diablo: Infinite plays well. When it comes to gaming, it's almost my experience playing Diablo III on Switch.

I played my demo before becoming aware of all the negativity of people on social networks like Twitter and Reddit. Many basic players will always feel that mobile games are somehow below them. But the demo I attended showed that the Diablo franchise is perfect for mobile.

Maybe the angry crowd will turn around once the game is played.
