The rival protesters clashed after a far right march to Liverpool.
According to local media, anti-fascist counter-demonstrators were much less numerous than the so-called patriots of the north-west front line.
Trouble inevitably erupted, although only two people were arrested by Merseyside police on Saturday.
According to police officers, one person was detained for violation of public order, while the other was arrested for breach of public order.
A spokesperson for the force was not able to say which group the detained individuals were supporting.
Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson celebrated the counter-demonstration by tweeting: "Peaceful power has driven fascists out of our streets".
The result is similar clashes during the far-right march of "footballers" in central London last month.
Hundreds of supporters of the Alliance of Democratic Footballers clashed with police and protesters.
