Since its launch in May 2016 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, Overwatch has released seven new characters. Even though Overwatch is a first person shooter, all these new characters have not focused on, you know, shooting people to death. Doomfist is a case of punches, Brigette uses a shield and a flail, and Wrecking Ball is a panicked hamster (to be clear, I love him, but he is offbeat).
The next Overwatch character, Ashe, brings things back to the basics. Blizzard revealed the gun at the opening conference of the BlizzCon 2018 Friday in Anaheim, California. I had the chance to play with Ashe, and the character is fun and satisfying without having to rely on the extravagant mechanics of other recent characters.
A versatile sniper
Ashe focuses on medium and long-term damage. It uses a rifle that can shoot quickly if you shoot from the hip, but you can also look down for more accuracy, more damage, but a slower rate of fire.
It lies in a location between McCree, who uses a gun that works best in medium range, and Widowmaker, a sniper who has the most lonely reach of all characters in the game. You can always shoot with Ashe, but you will not do as much damage at long distances. But you are more effective in close combat, while Widowmaker often has no choice but to run away if an enemy gets close to it.
Blow them up
Being able to switch between sniping and close fire is an advantage, but Ashe has other exceptional abilities. She can fire with a shotgun that propels herself backwards and repels enemies. It does decent damage, but it's more effective as a movement ability. You can even shoot on the ground to reach high perches.
She can also throw a pile of dynamite. After a while, it explodes, inflicting damage and igniting nearby enemies, causing more and more damage in the long run. If you're impatient, you can shoot dynamite yourself and blow it up sooner. He beautifully captures the cowboy fantasy.
Bob! Do something!
Ashe has one of the most unique ultimate abilities of the game. She calls her robotic bodyguard, Bob. He runs a little forward, throwing his enemies in the air, before planting himself and shooting like a turret on his near enemies. Bob acts as a separate character in some ways. He has his own health basin and the other team can even kill him.
Bob can also capture goals and receive buffs or be knocked out by players. But you can not load your own Ultimate by shooting Bob, so you do not have to worry about him becoming a sponge for the opposing team.

A strong addition
Many of the post-release Overwatch heroes focused on tank fill and composition. It was a wise decision because Overwatch had far more damage traffickers than defenders and healers. But now, Overwatch's alignment is much more varied, so it's nice to see another character focusing on the shoot.
And as far as these pure and simple shooter characters go, Ashe could be one of the most fun.
