A HAMILTON Hill trophy home next door to the former mansion of the late Christopher Skase has sold for a whopping $5.25 million.
The brand new house at 41 Dickson Terrace sold a few days before it was due to be publicly listed on the market — reflecting the strong appetite for luxury homes in Brisbane’s top end of town.
The sale has also landed the property in the top 10 residential sales in the city so far this year, taking seventh position.
Selling agent Dwight Ferguson of Ray White Ascot said two potential buyers made offers for the property, but one was too good for the vendor to refuse.
Mr Ferguson said the buyer was from Brisbane and was excited to move in and make it the family’s “forever home”.
It had been planned that the modern mansion would go to auction on December 8, but that has now been cancelled.
The house spans three levels, framed by walls of glbad and high ceilings, and offers 180 degree views of the river and city.
Features include four bedrooms, four-and-a-half bathrooms, a double garage, a pool, two living rooms, two kitchens, a media room, a home office and an internal lift.
Mr Ferguson said demand for prestige property was strong, particularly in the $3 million-plus price range.
“Numbers through open homes in top end properties are greater than they’ve been for a long time,” Mr Ferguson said.
He said confidence was improving and there was stability in the Brisbane housing market.
“We haven’t seen the spikes Sydney, Melbourne and the Gold Coast have,” he said.
“The likes of Ascot, Hamilton, Clayfield, Hendra, have had very gradual growth and because it has been drawn out, that growth is more sustainable than what we saw in 2007/2008.
“The other reason we’ve seen a better top end market is more prestige properties have come on the market.”
The home is only a couple of doors down from the lavish mansion that was once home to disgraced businessman Christopher Skase, who had it built in the late 1980s.
That property at 36 Dickson Tce, Hamilton, sold late last year in another offmarket deal for $10.138 million to hotelier Steven Shoobridge.
It has been another big year for Brisbane’s prestige property market, with a riverfront mansion at 110 Virginia Ave, Hawthorne, fetching $11.128 million in July in the biggest home sale of 2018 so far.
A home in Ascot formerly owned by Domino’s Pizza boss Don Meij sold for $11 million in March.
