Liverpool legend Dietmar Hamann believes Australia is doing the right thing by giving Tim Cahill a send-off – but it was not in support of England's decision to hand over to Wayne Rooney.
The 59-time German international says that it was fair to give him some farewell minutes ago.
Cahill will pull on the green and gold for the final time against Lebanon on Tuesday night in Sydney.
"No I think with Cahill it's a different story," Hamann said on Optus Sport.
"He was part of the World Cup squad only two months ago and I think the way the games are, the first game is against South Korea I understand the second one is against Lebanon where he will take part.
"So I think it was a little different because it was still part of the team two months ago, Rooney has not been featured for at least 18 months. So I think it's a little different situation and I've got no issues. I just feel we've seen Subasic, Mandzukic and Corluka getting their shirts with the number of caps on the back of it and I thought it was a clbady thing to do.
"Because when you bring in a player who has not been featured for 18 months or two years the friendly. And this is why I do not think England made the right call, I think Australia is making the right call. "
Rooney came on in the 58th minute against USA at Wembley on Friday morning AEDT has made his 120th and final appearance for the national team.
Prior to the friendly clash, his most recent outing for the Three Lions came in a World Cup qualifier against Scotland in November 2016. It was almost two years to the day since he last took part for his country, a caveat that turned his farewell into a bit of a mockery, according to Hamann.
Some of the best games in the world, which includes 107 appearances, four World Cups and 50 goals.
