A pilot is currently under investigation after falling asleep at work and flying his way to a Tasmania airport 46 km away.
The Australian Transportation Safety Board is investigating a "serious incident" that occurred on November 8th.
The pilot was the only person on board a cargo flight between Devonport Airport and King Island Airport, according to a summary of the investigation document.
"The ATSB is investigating a pilot's inability involving a Piper PA-31, VH-TWU, operated by Vortex Air, near King Island Airport, Tasmania," says the summary.
"As part of the investigation, the ATSB will interview the pilot and review the operational procedures."
A final report on the issue is expected next year.
In 2018, the ATSB completed 25 complex aviation safety investigations and 34 short investigations.
The complex investigations included the findings of his second examination on the ditching of an Israeli Aircraft Industries Westwind aircraft off the island of Norfolk in 2009.
It also included the 2015 incident involving an EC 135 TI from Airbus Helicopters in Cooranbong, New South Wales.
