The Labor Party writes history with a first government composed of 50% women

New ministers Philip Dalidakis, Natalie Hutchins and John Eren have given way to the new appointments, while the position vacated after Fiona Richardson's death last year has also been filled.

"Today, my colleagues have delivered something that has never been achieved in the history of our state: 50% of cabinet members are women," Andrews said Tuesday.

The composition of the new Labor Cabinet – 11 men and 11 women – contrasts with the defeated Liberals, whose number includes only three women among its 18 members, confirmed by the new parliament.

He also was at odds with his upper house colleagues in July when he told a Privy Council inquiry that he had briefly voiced his concerns to Mr. Andrews about the 2014 Red Shirt program in which the Labor Party used $ 388,000 in public funds to campaign.

But on Tuesday, Mr. Andrews described Mr. Somyurek as a good friend and said he was chosen in part because he resides in the southeastern suburb of Melbourne, where much of the Labor's infrastructure program.

Philip Dalidakis, the man who replaced Mr. Somyurek in the Cabinet in 2015, was removed from office today, although Mr. Andrews pointed out that this was not the case. not due to poor performance.

Melissa Horne, who has not yet been sworn in as the new MP for Williamstown, said it was "pretty daunting" to go straight to cabinet.

Symes remains in a close battle with Luke O'Sullivan of the Nationals for the fifth and last place in Parliament for Northern Victoria.

In her statement, she stated that she wanted to spend more time with her children following the death of her husband, former Senator Stephen Hutchins, at the disease last year.

Ms. Hutchins would become parliamentary secretary and continue her work on the process of concluding a treaty with aboriginal peoples, Andrews said.

Mr. Eren, over the last four years, the Minister of Tourism, Sports and Veterans Affairs said that he would go to the back burner to focus on the family, his health and his electorate of Lara.
