The last NBL team decided to enter the league with the help of one of Australia's largest sports franchises.
South East Melbourne Phoenix has formed a strategic partnership with Hawthorn FC. The AFL club should provide the new NBL team with a shared service model for all financial management, human resources and IT activities.

The Victorian government is committed to devote up to $ 126 million to strengthening the region's resources, including the State Basketball Center and Melbourne Arena.
