"The police were called to a collision between a car and a cyclist," he said.

"The car turned left on Palmer Street when it hit the cyclist.

"The cyclist was taken to the hospital with injuries that did not put his life in danger."

According to the first witness reports, the former coach of Essendon was injured on the wrist and knee.

A spokeswoman for Victoria Ambulance said that paramedics were called to report the Richmond accident.

"A man in his forties was transported to Epworth Hospital by road ambulance with wrist and knee injuries," she said.

In July 2015, Hird was a victim of a bike accident at the corner of Toorak Road and Chapel Street in South Yarra.

He fell off his bike while he was returning home after a workout, banging his head on the road. He suffered a severe concussion and spent a night in the hospital.

Hird played more than 250 games with the Bombers and was, as the club's head coach, at the center of the Essendon supplements scandal in 2012.

More soon.
