The war of words between Gerard Whateley and Michael Clarke is intensifying. The former Australian skipper called the broadcaster "nothing more than a title chasing a coward".

This morning, Whateley was shocked by comments from Clarke, where the retired cricketer said Australia must stop worrying about being loved in the wake of the trial-and-error saga and focus on victory.

Whateley described Clarke as "the last of the great climate deniers" and stated that his interpretation of the state's national state was "breathtaking".

Returning on Twitter this afternoon, Clarke touched on various points while he refused to back down.
