Fairfax Media was told that Mr. Kelly had also expressed the wish to join the Coalition National Partner's National Party in an effort to prevent the Liberals from running a candidate against him – but had decided not to not do it.

Asked about this case and his clothing choices on Thursday, Kelly told Fairfax Media: "I've always wanted to be a model, but I do not think an Akubra would fit."

While the feeling of chaos persisted this week, the Labor Party was able to partially cancel the government's calendar of parliamentary sittings for 2019, which it calls a "surrender document" and attempt to evade.

The amendments, which were pbaded in the Senate Thursday morning by 33 votes to 30, abolish the Senate sitting day of April 4 and the sessions on the estimates in May and June.

It is understood that the Morrison government will now negotiate a modified schedule with Labor, which wants to insert two weeks of hearings on the estimates immediately after the April 2 budget.

These hearings allow senators to question ministers and senior officials on the budget and other government policies.

Labor Senator Jacinta Collins accused the government of "clearly hiding" by trying to avoid scrutiny of budget estimates. She said that an eight-week gap between budget and budget estimates was "unprecedented".

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Christopher Pyne, insisted that there was nothing unusual in the 2019 calendar, which only contains seven sitting days before the budget of the April 2.

Mr. Morrison is expected to hold elections shortly after May 11 or 18.

The changes to the calendar were adopted with votes from the Greens, the Alliance Center, Derryn Hinch and Tim Storer. One nation, Fraser Anning, Brian Burston and Cory Bernardi supported the government.

On Wednesday, Pyne told ABC radio that the problem was "a storm in a cup of tea" and that voters were "not the least interested" at the frequency with which Parliament s & # 39; Is seated before the budget.

Fairfax Media has contacted Mitch Fifield, Director of Government Affairs in the Senate, for comments.
