NEW electric car starter, Rivian is preparing to shock Tesla. The American start-up of electric vehicles has unveiled the concept of R1T all-electric double cab.

Rivian has ambitious plans to start production of the futuristic workaholic by the end of 2020.

Tesla has been promoting an electric van for several years, but no concrete details have yet been unveiled, leaving Rivian to venture unparalleled into this segment.

Initially, the R1T will be launched with two variants with batteries of 135 kWh or 180 kWh.

The larger battery has a theoretical autonomy of more than 640 km, while the smaller battery is supposed to travel about 500 km.

One year after its launch, the couple will be joined by a basic model equipped with a 105 kWh battery with a range of about 370 km.

All three are all-wheel drive – electric motors power each wheel, with torque vectoring to ensure maximum traction of all wheels.

The power values vary according to the specifications: the basic version produces 300 kW / 560 Nm, the average specification 563kW / 1120Nm and the best specifications prioritize the power range compared to 522 kW / 1120Nm.

A payload of 800 kg and a towing capacity of up to 5,000 kg give the R1T the power to back up its claims. It can also handle some tricky things with a wading depth of up to one meter.

Mark Vinnel, Head of Engineering and Programs at Rivian, said, "The beauty and elegance of our four-engine system is not just about brute power. This architecture provides instant torque with extremely precise control at each wheel, which completely changes the game from a dynamic point of view, both on and off the road. "

The Rivian will have a boot before, because almost all of its vital elements are under the floor.

When connected to a DC fast charger, the R1T can recharge at 80% in 30 minutes.

Rivian also promises semi-autonomous driving capabilities that would allow driving without a highway.

According to Rivian's director, RJ Scaringe, the company "has spent years developing technology to provide the ideal vehicle for active customers."

"It means having excellent driving dynamics on any surface, on or off the road, by providing loading solutions to easily store any type of equipment … and, very importantly, able to navigate long distances with a single charge. "

Rivian also introduced an electric SUV at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week.

There is no certainty that Rivian will market its cars on the market. Several EV start-ups went bankrupt after revealing high-profile concept cars.

Tesla, the only start-up company to produce vehicles in significant numbers, has encountered many well-known difficulties in trying to increase its production and has not yet generated annual profit over the past 15 years since his creation.
