A man was charged with murdering his wife after discovering his body on a street in east Sydney.

Emergency services were called in Barker Street around 8:45 pm Saturday night, after a woman was reportedly stabbed.

Police found that a 47-year-old woman was not answering in Easy Street located nearby, near the emergency entrance to the Prince of Wales Hospital.

She had been stabbed several times and treated by paramedics but had died as a result of her injuries.

Crime scenes were established in both streets and the police searched last night inside a break.

Detectives were seen in the vicinity, including at the hospital.

The police described the incident as being "of domestic origin".

The woman's husband, Mourad Kerollos, 60, from Panania, was arrested in Barker Street and taken to the Maroubra Police Station, where he was later charged with murder.

He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear in Parramatta court later Sunday.
