The ARIA Awards ended on a strange note when veteran rocker Bob Geldof appeared on stage alongside host Keith Urban to present the final prize of the evening, Song of the Year.
Urban reminded the less enthusiastic rocker of Boomtown Rats that he himself had organized the awards in 1991, something Geldof did not seem to remember too well.
It was a delicate exchange:
Bob: Apparently I did it, but …
Keith: Memorable experience?
Bob: It's at a time when you do not remember that kind of thing anymore. They come and go.
Keith: Like tonight?
Bob: Judging by your the performance, yes.
Ouch. The surprisingly hard sled drew audible gasps and looks shocked by the audience – but Urban persevered, telling Geldof, "I have not even played yet! It's a difficult piece, it's a difficult piece. "
This #arias hosting in the shadow of FIFO celebrities is cringey. Act as if you wanted to be there, ppl, you get paid.

The pair continued, their conversation likely to be uncomfortable as Geldof explained exactly what he was doing at the ARIA Awards.

"I was in town to do things. I have a new record that I was playing in the record company, I am going to South Africa tomorrow. You called me and begged me to help you tonight, he said.
From there, it's up to Geldof to introduce the nominees to the song of the year – but he soon takes off, admitting he was released because he could not read the text .

"There are very few people who come to the top of the game and tonight there is – again, there are only three, four or five people who have the song of the year, the best song than any other song of this year, the song that wins from around the world
thing. I can not read what I read, so I invent this story, but it looks good, "he shrugged.
My bad were never so tight in discomfort as watching Bob Geldof talking to the #ARIAs. Railway accident

Oh, and also: did he call Keith "Jim"?
Finally, Geldof was able to award the song of the year award to Five Seconds of Summer for its global success. New blood.
This year was crowned by a year of surprising release: several uncensored F bombs were broadcast at the beginning of the night.
