Julie Bishop, warned the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, that this country will not accept any sign of appeasement towards Russia from the Trump administration before the first historic meeting between the two this week.
Bishop is scheduled to meet with President Trump's latest foreign affairs chief at AUSMIN in San Francisco on Tuesday
and, in a clear sign that the Turnbull government is far from happy with the flickering messages and almost indecipherable from Mr Trump in the wake of the Helsinki Summit, she said that America must hold the line.
His words, which included claims that the United States "should not reward Russia for their bad behavior" go much further than the initial US Leader defense as a "patriot" last week.
Trump had been criticized by Democrats and Republicans, some even going so far as to accuse him of treason – literally "giving a hand to the enemy" – after applying it by taking the President Putin's words on the advice of his own heads of security agencies on whether or not the Soviets had hacked into the 2016 presidential elections.
