How many acronyms can you incorporate into a name? Well, when you talk about one of the best TVs on the market, apparently a lot. When I was introduced to this technical beauty, I was described as "inspired by cinema" and it lived up to the concept.
Good
- The material used is phenomenal and produces exceptional quality.
- Android TV is a wonderful operating system with Google Assistant.
- Acoustic Surface Audio + is remarkable – depending on the size of the room, you can remove the soundbar.
The bad
- The microphone was random and often did not recognize my "Hey Google" command.
The verdict
The Bravia A9F 4K HDR Bravia A9F OLED TV from Sony is what I was going to say as the most "correct" TV available for purchase at the moment. And by exact I mean representative of how a scene was filmed and designed to look like. I have almost rated the price as a default of the A9F, but OLED technology around the world remains very expensive – you pay for the best. The 55-inch model I looked at costs $ 4,998 and the 65-inch model on the shelves at $ 6,499. I will not pretend that this amount is necessary for a TV, but if you want the high end, this is where you will find it.
EQUIPMENT
When you talk about television, you will find that the physical panels that make up the screen are mbad-produced by a few select companies and sold to other brands, where the rest of the television is manufactured. This means that the true difference and quality that we find in high-end models is almost exclusively due to the image processor and internal controllers – that's how the Sony A9F shines.
Sony has developed what they call the X1 Ultimate chip to handle all of the image processing on this TV and the work is phenomenal. We've known for a few years now that Sony is a leader in motion management and confident that panoramic / mobile plans look great – but they've taken over in every sense of the word with their new processor and controller. OLED titled Contrast Boost Pixel & # 39; Honestly, I can say that I have never seen the quality compete with what I saw on the A9F.
For the uninitiated, OLED is the acronym for "Organic Light Emitting Diode" and its technology is undoubtedly the last and the best thing to do for screens. To give you an incredibly short summary, unlike its predecessors, OLED offers the TV the ability to COMPLETELY turn off every pixel on the screen, which is to say that your blacks are all black. You will also notice a considerable change in contrast, the processor now controlling the brightness of each small pixel.
Thus, between the new X1 processor, Pixel Contrast Booster and pre-existing advanced motion technology, it's clear why the Bravia A9F is at the forefront of technology.
L & # 39; AUDIO
This TV could produce the best sound I've ever heard. At EFTM, we have looked at many audio products and a good deal of them are sound bars, but I would say that, depending on the size of the room, you almost do not need anything of the kind. 39; other than the television audio produced by the Bravia A9F. This can be attributed to what they call Acoustic Surface Audio +.
The audio of the A9F goes through the screen in three channels (left, center and right), as well as by the two laterally oriented bbad boxes that deliver great bbad. Previous Sony TVs were equipped with a surface audio system, but only via two channels, left and right. The addition of the central channel allows the content to be considerably more directional than ever before. When you sit directly in front of the screen, the experience is relatively simple: you clearly hear the audio moving around the room, a little less behind you, but we leave that to the 5.1 systems.
The bbad was not comparable to that of a dedicated floor subwoofer, but it was big enough to impress and for those who used nothing but TV audio, it would surprise you.
ANDROID TV
One of the aspects of your TV on which you probably have not really thought about is the operating system (OS) – the software that provides you with your main functions, menus, settings, and so on. I did not meet anyone on the street who was asked about the TV OS when recommending a certain product. But why not? Well because, for the most part, television operating systems are uniform and very lacking. We did not need them to do much and then they did not do it anymore – but as we reach new limits with the material and what we are physically able to achieve at this point, it's time to strengthen the software game.
The Bravia A9F is fully designed for Android TV, an operating system designed around content discovery across multiple applications. The home screen of the operating system looks a bit like;
And as you can see, it gives you access to all your different applications (Netflix, Stan, Amazon, etc.) and a quick overview of what is available in each one. You can rearrange each line where you want, and delete any lines you do not want to see.
The other wonderful thing about Android TV, is that Google Assistant is integrated with this one. Commands such as "Hey Google, Bodyguard" display a facts page on the new Netflix series, as well as a quick link to the app for you to dive directly.
Naturally, it has all the standard features of Google Assistant, such as calendar, weather, routines, etc., which allows you to make the most of the use of your TV as as the main hub. The question is whether it's better to choose a Google Home Hub Assistant or the TV itself, but the game is moving too fast for it to be a good thing … it's too early to know. I personally know that I have a Google Home Mini, as well as an LG Google Assistant speaker and a Google Pixel that are all constantly waiting to hear the "Hey Google" command that can often be recognized by multiple devices at once . .
The only problem I have with Google Assistant has nothing to do with the operating system, but rather with the microphone. I found that unless I talked DIRECTLY to the microphone, it would not take my "Hey Google", but everything that followed was relatively transparent.
In the end, the Sony Master Series Bravia A9F is an exceptional TV, and if you have the means, I highly recommend you to test it. You can purchase a 65-inch for $ 6,499 and a 55-inch for $ 4,998.
