Based on the June 2018 statistics compiled by Priori Data, the most downloaded Android apps in the US and the apps used by the rest of the world overlap, but one theme is clear: the umbrella of the Facebook application continues to dominate.
The Android application market continues to flourish. According to Priori Data mobile market intelligence firm, the top 10 Android apps combined totaled more than 19 million downloads last month, led by a game called Kick the Buddy with 2.96 million downloads in June
The rest of the top 10 American consists of two other games (Love Balls and Helix Jump), the Wish e-commerce application, a news app, two music apps and of course some social and messaging apps like Facebook Messenger, Instagram and Snapchat. But by comparing these figures with the best Android apps from June to the global scale, some interesting trends are emerging.
Of the more than 306 million downloads of the top 10 global Android apps in June, half of the apps are Facebook-owned products. Downloads from the global Android app show just how Facebook's apps have become global, with Facebook's top five apps in the global top 10 combining more than 172 million downloads in June.
WhatsApp led the list with 55.78 million downloads. at 44.06 million and Instagram in fifth place at 27.04 million. Unlike the list of Android apps in the United States, the global listing also includes Facebook and Facebook Lite, the simplified version of the Facebook app aimed at developing countries with lower connectivity. Four of the other apps (Kick the Buddy, Helix Jump, Musical.ly, and Love Balls) also appeared on the US list.
The numbers of Facebook's active users among its products eclipse other social and messaging apps. even more dominant than in the US with respect to Android users.
