Southgate rents Pickford
Gareth Southgate praised British hero Jordan Pickford after his heroic penalty yesterday evening
Pickford made a superb save from Carlos Bacca to leave former Blue Eric Dier with England in the quarter. The goalkeeper had been criticized by some sections of the media – and strangely, Thibaut Courtois – after his defeat in Belgium last week, but Southgate revealed that he was still confident that the 24-year-old could save his team .
"It was a first clbad rescue [from Bacca] and I was surprised that it could reach him given his size," said Southgate laughing after the victory .
"His athleticism around the goal is excellent and he executed the shot in the penalty shootout."
"We had studied all their takers, and a great merit should go to the staff collective, and to Jordan, to take on board this information and prepare in the right way.You do not always get what you deserve in life but I think we did against Colombia.
"Even when the penalty [Jordan Henderson’s] was saved, I saw enough shootings to know that the first miss n & # 39; 39 is not the key. I thought our goalie would save one, and the technique of our players to take them was superb everywhere.
"Again, I have to thank a big support team that has done a lot of work in this field over the last few years."
