A chemical factory exploded outside Cairo's main airport, injuring 12 people with an army spokesman saying the blast had been caused by high temperatures

The MENA news agency reports that 12 people were injured at the hospital, citing a security source.
The Minister of Civil Aviation, Younis al-Masri, said: "Due to high temperatures, an explosion has occurred in a petrochemical depot belonging to the Heliopolis for Chemical Industries ", said Colonel Tamer al-Rifai, the spokesman for the army.
"Civil defense trucks were deployed to control the fire," he added.
Rifai did not specify who was the owner of the factory, but Some witnesses said that ambulances and fire trucks rushed to the scene while a cloud of smoke black rose on the area.
State television said the firefighters had managed to control the fire.
Egypt is fighting a militant Islamist insurgency that has led attacks, mainly in the remote peninsula of Sinai, where the army has been conducting a security operation since February.
The violence seems to have calmed down in recent months, reported incidents in the mainland of the country outside of Sinai.
