Future fingerprint sensors will take your temperature to prove that you are human

The new generation of fingerprint sensors for smartphones could include a temperature sensor for added security. A group of scientists affiliated with Samsung Display has developed a solution that will be placed under a screen and offer the possibility to measure pressure and temperature.

As revealed in an article in Nature Communications (via CNET) this week, the new sensor could improve security by preventing counterfeits.

Such a solution could prevent the use of artificial fingerprints to value open smartphones, verifying that the subject is human. Scientists at the Samsung Display-UNIST Center in South Korea say the new technology even meets the FBI's safety standards.
