German GP penalty confirmed for Ricciardo

Daniel Ricciardo's hopes of winning the German Grand Prix have been negated by the use of too many engine parts.

The Australian rider, who has won twice this season, will start Sunday at Hockenheim.

He had to make several modifications to the hybrid system, to the energy store and to the electronic unit for a combined total of 20 positions on the grid.

Drivers are allowed to use two of each specific part of the engine. During the season before incurring penalties, Ricciardo uses for the third time each individual element

With Ricciardo in his debut, Red Bull could take advantage of the opportunity to make other changes of elements before the race

The decision to make the changes here seems to be in order to avoid the penalties at the GP of Hungary next weekend.

The Hungaroring, narrow and nervous, is considered one of the most suitable tracks for Red Bull because of its lack. Ricciardo is fourth in the standings, but he could be overtaken by Mercedes Valtteri Bottas (two points behind) and his team-mate Red Bull Max Verstappen (13 points behind in sixth place).
