Two cases of life-threatening pertussis disease have been confirmed on the Fraser Coast.
A Ministry of Education spokesman said Queensland Health had informed two confirmed cases of pertussis at Sandy Strait State School in Hervey Bay.
"Queensland public schools take all reported cases of contagious diseases seriously," he said.
"Any student who has been diagnosed with pertussis is required to stay out of school until a health professional authorizes him to return.
"Schools continue to be vigilant about the signs and symptoms of whooping cough in students and staff, and work with parents to help reduce the spread of the infection.
"Parents and caregivers have been kept up to date by letters, including information about whooping cough in Queensland Health.
"If parents are concerned about their child's health, they are encouraged to see a doctor."
