TWO ripped families who tragically lost their healthy teenage children to the horrifying flu season last year joined forces to save other young lives, launch a national awareness campaign and help fund a rescue test.
Thomas Snell, a healthy 13-year-old footballer, died on July 22 last year, a few days after contracting the flu, which caused sepsis, a deadly disease that causes the body to attack its own tissues. and organs.
A few months later, in October, 18-year-old Maddy Jones, a young healthy student and tennis player from Brisbane, died under Thomas – healthy one day and life support the next.
Their families will now meet with T for Thomas – the foundation created in memory of the young footballer.
The foundation will donate $ 15,000 to develop a rapid sepsis test that could reduce killer state diagnostic times up to two days and save lives.
