Australian innovators are formally seeking to attract the best technological talent after the activation of the Turnbull Government's new visa pilot program yesterday.
The new visa, issued by Global Talent Scheme, replaces the popular 457 visa system that ended in March and is part of the controversial Temporary Skills Shortage (TSS).
The GTS is a 12-month trial aimed at dispelling the concerns of the technology industry about the fact that the TSS was too limited. "The list of occupations used for 457s, tightening the requirements in English, and, in the short term, allowing a single renewal of onshore visas.
When the 457 plan officially ended in March, the number of workers admitted to Australia rose from 130,000 to 70,000.
Companies like Atlbadian have up to 25% of their workforce with 457 temporary migration visas.
The GTS allows to offer Visas of up to four years and possibly apply for permanent residence
It is crucial to focus the list of occupations covered by the TSS entirely.
Alex Gruszka, COO StartupAUS, said the targeted start-up specialized stream of GTS "has the potential to provide some serious relief for start-up founders."
Boot stream provides access to five visas per year for authorized starts. [19659005] Visas have a lower salary threshold, the opportunity to use equity and other benefits to achieve this salary and a path to permanent residence.
Gruszka said startups regularly tell StartupAus that talent is the most important factor limiting their growth. Without a list of professions, he stated that it would be much easier to hire highly specialized and technologically advanced positions.
"Start-ups that can grow and evolve will be able to transition to the established business sector. ", He said.
"Startups will continue to be able to apply for visas under existing TSS, so the GTS is specifically there to fill the gaps and recruit hard-to-recruit people into the current system. "It's all upside down."
