Shaun Johnson went on Instagram to post a photo of himself signing his resignation from the Warriors and bidding farewell to the club's fans.
The Warriors on Wednesday released Johnson a day after asking CEO Cameron George and coach Stephen Kearney to leave the final year of his contract.
"Maaan, where should I start? What fools these past two days. Thinking that my time at Mt Smart to play for the team from my home town has officially ended is a mixed emotion. Thanks to the boys and all those who have been involved with the Warriors over the past 8 years. I am truly grateful and I will never lose sight of how different my life might be if it were not for all of you, "he wrote.
"So much has been said publicly in recent months that was not ideal, but that's what they are." I have nothing negative to say about the people involved in the club, and take things where we all want to be. "
Johnson, who has been tied to a visit to the Sharks, has not announced where he intends to play next year.
