Australian Workers’ Union officials will meet with Racing Victoria on Friday afternoon to try to thrash out a solution to a dispute which has been threatening to impact on Stakes day at Flemington on Saturday.
Racing Victoria raceday officials earlier this week gave notice they intended to walk off the job for one hour on Stakes day in a dramatic escalation of their threats to take industrial action.
Starters, barrier attendants, the clerk of the course, the clerk of scales, swabbing and other raceday staff are involved.
Racing Victoria insists it has a contingency plan to ensure there are no disruptions, delays or race cancellations on the final day of the Flemington carnival.
The AWU, on behalf of raceday officials, accuses Racing Victoria of greed over a failure to strike a new enterprise agreement with raceday officials.
Sticking points include raceday officials saying RV has failed to acknowledge increased workload involving twilight and night meetings.
The latest news is that AWU bosses will meet with Racing Victoria officials at RV headquarters on Friday afternoon.
It is hoped there will be a solution to the impbade and the one-hour stopwork meeting of raceday officials at Flemington on Saturday can be avoided.
