Steyn stuns Aussies with double blow

Aaron Finch and Travis Head will open the batwing for Australia in the opening of the Gillette One-Day Series match in Perth.

South Africa captain Faf du Plessis won the first leg of the first ministers in Canberra last week.

"We are still looking for a few combinations that will be the best for the World Cup," du Plessis said. "There will be some really good opportunities this series."

There's a lot of things going on in Australia with the Shaun Marsh plan that will require less surgery.

No more details about Marsh's unusual injury were provided, but Australia camp did not confirm D'Arcy Short would come into the side for today's match in his stead.

JUST IN: Shaun Marsh has been withdrawn from today's ODI and will have 'minor surgery on an abscess in his buttock region'.A hopeful camp will be available for the second ODI. D'Arcy Short in the XI for the series opener today #AUSvSA– cricket.com.au (@cricketcomau) November 4, 2018

Chris Lynn, who is playing his second ODI for Australia, is following suit with injuries.

Wicketkeeper Alex Carey was listed with Glenn Maxwell, with Marcus Stoinis coming in at No.7.

Australia will take the first step against the proteas, just last minute after the next morning coaching Justin Langer and selector Greg Chappell, with leg-spinner Adam Zampa missing out.

Finch – who said he would also have bowled first down the way – said spin bowling would come from Short, Head and Maxwell. The Australia captain had said on the eve the XI had been picked, but he declined to name it ahead of the coin toss. Marsh's injury, and a green-tinged Perth Stadium wicket, saw late changes to the team make-up anyway.

Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Nathan Coulter-Nile will lead the Australia pace-attack, with the Proteas spearheaded by Kagiso Rabada and Dale Steyn.

South Africa will take their leg-spinning weapon Imran Tahir into the match, but have opted against a two-pronged spin attack with Tabraiz Shamsi left on the sidelines.

The Proteas dropped Farhaan Behardien and Dwaine Pretorius, bringin Heinrich Klaasen and Andile Phehlukwayo to their side.
