Anthony Martial injury

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba and forward Anthony Martial have withdrawn from the France squad for the Nations League match against Holland and friendly with Uruguay because of injury.

Pogba was absent from the United squad which was beaten 3-1 at Manchester City on Sunday, with Martial completing the full game.

The French Football Federation confirmed on Monday neither player would be involved for the world champions over the international break.

A post on the France national team Twitter feed said Pogba’s injury was a thigh problem, while Martial had an abductor-related issue.

Both players had reported to the squad’s base at Clairefontaine and been badessed by Dr Franck Le Gall.

Arsenal forward Alexandre Lacazette and Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko have been called up as replacements by Les Bleus coach Didier Deschamps.

Wanted: Vilius Piliukaitis

Manchester United and Liverpool are leading the chase to sign Blackburn talent Vilius Piliukaitis.

That’s according to website TEAMtalk, who are claiming that Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham have also shown interest.

Piliukaitis, 17, arrived at Ewood Park on an initial loan deal from the Lithuanian National Football Academy this summer and quickly showcased his abilities.

He won the Man of the Match award for Blackburn’s Under-18 squad against Manchester City and fired two goals against West Brom during a 4-1 victory on November 3.

The Lithuania Under-18 international attracted interest from Spurs and Liverpool before joining Blackburn – who have the option to sign him on a permanent basis.

But that could mean little if the Premier League’s elite come knocking.

More aggression – Victor Lindelof

Victor Lindelof believes Manchester United should have been more aggressive against Manchester City.

Lindelof feels United squandered an opportunity to get back into the game at the Etihad Stadium after cutting the the hosts’ lead to 2-1 just before the hour.

Instead, it was Premier League leaders City who moved up a gear to close out the game 3-1 and open up a 12-point lead over their neighbours.

“After we scored after our first goal we could have been a bit more aggressive and tried a little bit more,” Lindelof told MUTV.

“After that goal they were quite nervous and it felt like we could have scored another, but they scored a third goal instead. We are very, very disappointed because we felt that we could have scored a second goal and got a better result.

“We had quite a lot of possession, but we didn’t really come in behind their defensive line into their last third of the pitch. We tried and it felt like we could’ve hurt them more.”

Paul Pogba injury

Manchester United are fearing the worst after reports Paul Pogba will NOT join up with France during the international break.

Pogba, 25, was sidelined for yesterday’s derby clash at Manchester City through injury – which was originally described as minor.

The Frenchman will miss the UEFA Nations League trip to Holland and the friendly against Uruguay.

“It’s not for me to lose the game and speak about this player that was not playing. I don’t like it very much, but he is important for us in many aspects of the game,” Mourinho said.

Wanted: Heritier Deyonge

Manchester United and Chelsea are interested in signing PSV Eindhoven teenager Heritier Deyonge.

That’s according to French newspaper L’Equipe, who claim the European heavyweights will fight PSG for his signature.

Deyonge, 16, joined PSV in 2012 and is reported to have made rapid progress with the club’s Under-17 side.

PSG are loosely thought to be favourites after Deyonge told French website FootMercato: “I like Neymar, Kylian Mbappe,” in a recent interview.

Lorenzo Pellegrini interest

Manchester United are considering a January pursuit of Roma star Lorenzo Pellegrini.

Express Sport understands the Portuguese will be handed a £100m war chest.

And, according to Italian news outlet Calciomercato, Pellegrini is being monitored very closely.

The 22-year-old was a standout performer for Roma last term with a series of eye-catching displays in midfield.

Calciomercato add that Pellegrini has a tantalising £26m release clause that Roma are desperately trying to raise with a bumper new deal.

Monchi not interested

Roma transfer guru Monchi has no interest in joining Manchester United.

Monchi arrived at Roma from Sevilla in 2017 having contributed to 11 trophies and secured bargain signings like Dani Alves, Ivan Rakitic and Sergio Ramos.

Barcelona, Manchester United, PSG and Atletico Madrid have all been linked with Monchi in recent months.

But the Roma chief, who has brought exciting talents Cengiz Under and Justin Kluivert to Rome, dismissed the claims.

“I’m happy to work here and I want to stay for many years because I have a lot of confidence in the club,” he explained.

“I hope the rumours of my departure stop. I don’t want to leave, my goal is to work in the best way that I can. As long as there is trust, I will stay here. My only idea is to stay here.”

Man Utd defeat helped us – Allegri

Juventus boss Mbadimiliano Allegri praised his side for learning from their defeat to Manchester United and responding with a 2-0 victory over AC Milan.

The Italian side suffered a 2-1 loss against United in the Champions League on Wednesday, but appeared to have put it behind them as they took on their Serie A rivals.

Mario Mandzukic led the way with his fifth goal of the season before Cristiano Ronaldo added a second late on to restore Juve’s six-point advantage at the top of the Serie A table.

“Losing against Manchester United has done us good and tonight it was a good response from the team,” Allegri said. “We were a bit shell-shocked by the result on Wednesday but the boys went on the attack straight away in this game.

“This game is a big step forward in the league because we’ve created a nine-point gap with Inter and we’re still six points clear of Napoli.”

Neville reveals Reds’ big problem

Liverpool’s biggest problem in the Premier League title race is that very few teams appear capable of being able to snatch points from Manchester City.

That’s what Gary Neville believes – though he believes it is down to Liverpool to stop the City juggernaut.

“Winning one league is an achievement, winning back-to-back titles makes you a great team and Man City are on the brink of that,” the Sky Sports pundit told the Gary Neville Podcast.

“At this moment in time, I only feel like Liverpool can stop them.

“I think Chelsea are a little bit short, I’ve thought that from day one and I think Chelsea will just fall short.

“They’re doing well, they’ve started the season well under Sarri and the football’s flowing and they look like they’re a happy bunch again.

“But I still think that if anyone can stop City, it can only be Liverpool.

“The problem for Liverpool is that it doesn’t look like anyone else can lay a glove on City, that’s the problem they’ve got.”

‘Damaging blow’

Bernardo Silva feels Manchester City dealt a damaging blow to Manchester United’s hopes of winning the Premier League.

The 3-1 derby defeat was United’s fourth defeat in 12 games and left them eighth in the table.

City manager Pep Guardiola had said before the game that United could not be written off as challengers even if they lost, but Silva thinks they could have their work cut out.

“It won’t be easy. Not only Man City – they are 10 points from Liverpool, a lot of points from the other ones as well,” said the Portugal international. “They need to be almost perfect and wait for the other ones to lose a lot of points. I think it won’t be easy.”
