Massive funding for stem cell research in the treatment of kidney disease

The Melbourne researchers received a grant of one million dollars to develop kidneys from stem cells.

Innovative work could change the lives of those living with chronic kidney disease.

Professor Melissa Little, a pioneer in research, said 3AW Morning it is an important step forward.

"Treatment options for people with kidney failure have not changed in over 70 years," said Professor Little.

"We desperately need to find alternatives."
