THE Matildas have snatched a 4-0 lead over Chile, with Caitlin Foord inspiring a second-half burst.
Foord’s breakaway run put the ball on the platter for Sam Kerr to open the scoring in the 53rd minute.
A minute later, Foord tracked Chloe Logarzo’s ball to the back post to beat Christiane Endler with a fantastic shot.
In the 67th minute, Foord got a second goal. The forward capitalised on a mistake from Christiane Endler, won the ball and struck from distance as she was dragged back.
Two minutes later, Emily Gielnik made it 4-0.
Slipped through by Chloe Logarzo, the substitute loaded up on the left foot and powered home a first-time finish.
Scores were locked at 0-0 at the break.
Both sides traded possession early in the piece, but Australia made more early surges forward.
The Matildas dominated the midfield with full backs Gema Simon and Ellie Carpenter frequently getting forward in bids to create opportunities from space.
Carpenter created Australia’s best early chance, with a great ball into the mixer that Chloe Logarzo was unable to head on target in the 20th minute.
From there, a disciplined Chile was able to deny the Matildas space, frustrating the home side.
The visitors frequently looked to slow the play down through fouls and crowding.
“Chile have been smart in the way that they’ve played it, they’ve really driven the tempo of this game,” former Matildas captain Kate Gill said on Fox Sports.
“They’ve been patient, they’ve kept possession, they’ve circulated the ball and I think they’re really starting to frustrate the Matildas.”
coach Alen Stajcic made three changes to his side for the second friendly match against Chile.
Goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold, and defenders Alanna Kennedy and Gema Simon have been selected in the starting XI, with Lydia Williams, Laura Alleway and Lisa De Vanna dropping to the bench.
Simon is in the left full-back role, pushing Elise Kellond-Knight into midfield and Chloe Logarzo onto a wing.
