MATTHEW Guy resigned as Leader of the Opposition after Saturday's overwhelming electoral defeat.
After spending several days thinking about his options, Mr. Guy said this morning that he would not be looking to stay as a Liberal leader.
"Now that the parliamentary party has been called, it will elect a new management team," said Guy in a statement.
The phantom treasurer, Michael O'Brien, and Attorney General John Pesutto are the main candidates for the succession, although Mr. Pesutto is still under threat of losing his seat in Hawthorn, the countdown continues.

Mr. Guy congratulated Prime Minister Daniel Andrews and the Labor Party for their election victory.
"I would like to express my deep gratitude for the hard work of all my Liberal MPs in the last Parliament. They were the most unified team of all parliamentary parties in Australia, "said Guy.
"I would also like to thank and acknowledge the work of many Liberal candidates, the Secretary of State and my staff. They gave up so much and worked so hard.
Mr. Andrews said that he understood that leaders could take family life and wished the best to his former rival.
"I have been an opposition leader and I know it is not an easy job.
"I can share with him and we can understand, given the roles we have played, it is hard for families, it 's not easy.
"No matter what the future holds for him, I wish him only good things."
