Mercedes-AMG is preparing a new sports car model that splits under the existing GT.
According to a recent report, Mercedes-AMG is working on a competitor of the Porsche Cayman 718, with a possible mid-rear layout and engine style inspired by the Hypercar Project One. The new model would serve as an indirect successor to the SLC, as a two-seater coupe and convertible luxury sports car.
Coach says that rival Cayman is currently in a conceptual phase, but has been introduced to Mercedes- Benz's board of directors. If the project is lit in green, it will end up under the GT.

Another possibility is that the new AMG sports car could share components with the latest generation of Mercedes compact models with light potential
This will be the fifth AMG dedicated model in the company's lineup, joining the SLS, the GT, the GT Four-Door, and the Hypercar Project One coming soon.
