WESTS Tigers are reportedly in the process of signing New Zealand coach Michael Maguire on a three-year-deal from next season that is set to commence once Ivan Cleary’s transfer to Penrith is completed.
It’s the second coaching bombshell of the week following South Sydney withdrawing their offer to extend Anthony Seibold beyond 2019 and signing Broncos master Wayne Bennett for 2020 and 2021.

With Bennett off the market, the Wests Tigers were able to narrow their sights on Maguire, who is in England with the Kiwis.
Fairfax is reporting that Maguire has agreed to a three-year, $2.5 million deal to join the Wests Tigers as soon as Cleary’s standoff with the club is resolved, and is yet to put pen to paper.

The Wests Tigers players are due to arrive for pre-season training on November 7 and a deal to release Cleary to Penrith is likely to be struck before then. Cleary is contracted to the Wests Tigers for the following two seasons, but after agreeing to join the Panthers from 2021 to 2023, the situation has become untenable.
NRL.com is reporting that Penrith will announce Cleary has signed a five-year deal, from 2019 to 2023 within the coming days.

Just last week Wests Tigers legend Benji Marshall said he would harbour no ill feelings towards Cleary if he decided to leave the club to coach his son Nathan at Penrith.
“Being a dad I understand that, wanting to coach your son,” Marshall told AAP.
“And I think he wants to coach his son because he wants to take the decision out of Nathan’s hands, so Nathan doesn’t have to leave his mates at the club where he is at.
“If Ivan feels he can take that pressure off Nathan, he feels like he is doing his son a favour too.”
Cleary will take over from Penrith’s caretaker coach Cameron Ciraldo when the team returns to training next month.
