More frozen foods removed from supermarkets because of fear of listeriosis

Another frozen product is removed from supermarket shelves – bringing the total to 50.

Various packages of frozen vegetables were revealed following concerns over the listeriosis outbreak in British supermarkets.

Earlier this week, with a lot of Lidl sweetcorn now added to the list.

Nine people have already died across Europe, including two from the UK, and tens of thousands of bags have been taken off the shelves.

It is believed that the bacteria is linked to a Hungarian freezing plant that has suffered a listeriosis outbreak, reports The Express.

Here is the complete list of the 50 products that were removed.

The product is at risk of being contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Food.Gov listed symptoms as: "Similar to flu and includes high temperature muscle pain or pain, chills, sensations or vomiting, and diarrhea."

Although some people do not suffer from any symptoms and quickly manage to overcome the infection, others are seriously ill.

Pregnant women, the elderly, babies and people with weakened immune systems should all take extra precautions.

Kathie Grant of Public Health England spoke about the best way to keep listeriosis at bay. She said: "The best way to prevent listeriosis is to practice good food hygiene."

"With FSA, Food Standards Scotland (FSS) and Health Protection Scotland (HPS), we remind people that Most frozen vegetables, including sweet corn, need to be cooked before eating.

"This includes adding them to salads, smoothies or dips."
