Today, Genting Malaysia sued Walt Disney Co and Twenty-First Century Fox Inc. for more than one billion US dollars for giving up a contract related to the construction of the first amusement park in the United States. Fox brand, the 20th Century Fox World.
This was a surprise, because (despite many delays), we thought the 20th Century Fox World theme park would open in 2019 after delaying the planned completion date this year.
20th Century Fox World was first announced on July 26, 2013 and began construction on December 17, 2013 at an estimated cost of RM 1 billion.
Mr. Genting said the problems started when Fox took years to force a renegotiation of the contract, which did not give him a share of sales at the door.
This is also related to the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by Disney at the end of last year for a stock of 52.4 billion dollars. The transaction is expected to close on January 1, 2019.
According to the complaint, Disney "is currently taking things in hand" and wants to end the contract because they do not wish to be badociated with a company known for gambling, because it does not correspond to its brand strategy " friendly for families ".
It seems that 20th Century Fox World will not be performing soon and Genting may want to start looking for other brands to enter the theme park because they have already laid the groundwork.
We decided to take a look at the other types of theme parks that could be considered, now that the current agreement has failed.
1. Universal Studios
Even though they are tiny, our southern neighbors have one of the most prominent theme parks in the area: Universal Studios Singapore (USS). The Genting Group is the owner and manager of USS. It is therefore very likely that they have good relations and that they can simply restore them.
It is Hollywood's first Southeast Asian theme park, offering a wide range of attractions, rides and entertainment for families and thrill seekers.
With 18 of the 24 movie-themed rides designed specifically for Singapore Park, the park has 7 zones, including a Hollywood theme park, replicating true Hollywood in the 1970s, even with Walk of Fame in Hollywood.
The one that interests us most is The Lost World, not to be confused with Lost World Of Tambun by Sunway Lagoon. This amusement park contains traditional attractions that are mainly present in most of the Universal Studios parks in the world. It is divided into two sub-areas: Jurbadic Park and Waterworld.
Jurbadic Park is filled with dinosaurs, inspired by Steven Spielberg's famous film franchise. Waterworld is a huge stadium that offers live shows.
2. Warner Bros Theme Park
Warner Bros. has just opened its first ever theme park in Abu Dhabi, UAE, in the middle of this year, at an estimated cost of $ 1 billion.
The park contains characters from Warner Bros.'s franchises such as Looney Tunes, DC Comics and others. The park contains 29 rides covering more than 1.65 million square feet.
Better yet, everything is inside. But it will not be a problem in Genting, because it is much cooler here and the park's foundation is already built outside. Since WB has only opened one, they may want to start a second one here.
Warner Bros Theme Park features unique theme lands, including Bedrock, Dynamite Gulch, Cartoon Junction, Gotham City, and Metropolis. You will have the opportunity to visit Gotham City, home to one of the most famous superheroes of the DC universe: Batman.
There is even a mountain tour called Batman: Fallen Knight where you can sit in the Batmobile as you launch from Batcave and fly over the streets, defying the traps of super-bad guys when you zoom in on Gotham City. It's a high-octane, high-speed hike through the dark Gotham City skyline, full of breathtaking climbs, falls, rotations and bearings.
Imagine Genting turning into a full Gotham City.
3. Pokémon Theme Park
A thematic section on Pokémon would allow us to fulfill our dream of becoming a Pokémon coach. Although there is no permanent Pokémon theme park at the international level, there were appearances in 2005 when a traveling theme park was based on the Pokemon franchise called PokéPark. He started in Japan in 2005 and went to Taiwan in 2006.
The theme park featured twelve Pokémon-themed attractions. It was open from March 18 to September 25, 2005 in Japan and from June 23 to September 24, 2006 in Taiwan.
Rumor has it that a permanent PokePark would have been launched in 2020, with preferred sources confirming that Pokémon would actually be present at Universal Orlando in the United States.
This new Pokémon dreamland should be added to the KidZone section alongside Woody Woodpecker and Barney. Originally, this area was to host the new roller coasters of Mario Kart and Donkey Kong, but these will now join part of a larger Nintendo-themed park.
It will be a great addition here as Genting already hosts the first Pokemon Festival in Malaysia this year.
You'll have the chance to catch 32 first-generation Pokémon figures on SkyAvenue, as well as the world's largest Pokémon-themed Christmas tree and the first Pikachu parade in Malaysia. In addition, a 6-meter Pikachu inflatable will also be present.
In addition, if implemented in conjunction with Pokémon Go events, this park will be at a different level, both physically and virtually, as Pokémon Go can also be integrated into the park. The possibilities!
If you're wondering why Disneyland is not on this list, again, they probably will not want their "family friendly" image badociated with Genting.
The current situation is not good news for Genting and the Malaysians, because we will not be able to enjoy the theme park so soon before they have settled the problem in the courts.
However, in the meantime, there are rumors of the upcoming opening of the Skytropolis Covered Park. At least we can expect that.
