SOUTH Sydney is preparing to announce the shock signing of Wayne Bennett at the club from 2020.
Fox Sports understands the Rabbitohs will announce the deal as early as Thursday evening after withdrawing an offer to Anthony Seibold after a day of drama at Brisbane and Souths.
There is a growing belief that the swap deal could conceivably be brought forward a year earlier to include the 2019 season if Seibold’s position at Souths is considered untenable.
The Courier Mail reports Seibold has beaten Kevin Walters, Jason Demetriou and Michael Maguire in the race to the Broncos job and is on the verge of signing a three-year $3 million deal from 2020.
The Rabbitohs reportedly recently bumped up their offer to Seibold but he’s yet to respond and is said to have until next Wednesday to make a decision.
BREAKING: Anthony Seibold is now the only coach in talks with the Broncos. Michael Maguire, Kevin Walters and Jason Demetriou officially ruled out. It will be a minimum 3-year deal worth around $3 million for Seibold to coach Brisbane from 2020. Bennett in talks with Souths

Should South Sydney miss out on Seibold, The Australian reports the club will turn their attention to Bennett.
7 News has since reported the swap deal could take immediately with both men to take the reigns of their new clubs for the 2019 season.
Broncos won’t be announcing anything re coaches today. But Bennett going to Souths for 2019 is inevitable. Seibold could be at Red Hill as early as next month.

Bennett was recently told his contract will not be extended beyond the 2019 season.
The Broncos put a three-man selection panel together including CEO Paul White, chairman Karl Morris and director Darren Lockyer and have now made Seibold their preferred option.

Rabbitohs badistant David Furner was linked to the top job at Souths, but he’s agreed to join Leeds in Super League next season and the Rhinos expect to see him front up for pre-season training.
“I know it’s been widely reported that (Furner’s) got a get-out clause, well no there isn’t one,” Leeds CEO Gary Hetherington said.
“It’s all pure speculation. David is committed to coming here, there is no question about that.

“We are looking forward to Dave arriving at the club and plans are well advanced for next season.
“We know how highly Dave was thought of at South Sydney Rabbitohs, his achievements there were a key reason why we spoke to him about becoming the Rhinos head coach.
