COMERFORD has rejected endurance demands on Yucatan's favorite at the Melbourne Cup, while predicting stablemates like The Cliffsofmoher and Rostropovich, which are expected to appear at Flemington.
Comerford said that the decision of Lloyd Williams and Aidan O'Brien to bypbad the Caulfield Cup with Herbert Power Stakes winner Yucatan was right.
"I think Lloyd and Aidan have responded well to the call," Comerford said. "He needed that time after Caulfield and it's important to have the horse for the Melbourne Cup.
"I guess missing that race made all the difference.
"He was a little hurt after running the first day, but he bounced back in style and he is in a good position. When he bends down for his roll of sand and when he gets up, he jumps up and down. time that he does it, he does it again.
"We gave him a lot (of work) and he took it without emptying it."
Asked about the Yucatan approach at 3200 m, Comerford said, "I do not think that's a problem. He saw the mile and a half (2400 m) and he was very positive too. If you run on him for two miles, he should stay. "
Comerford said The Cliffsofmoher was ready to improve its third place in the Caulfield Cup.
"There are no problems with him," he says. "He will not be far, he is returning well, he looks unreal, his dapples are coming out, he has arrived at a giant step.
Comerford says, "If you asked me to mount one, he would choose the Yucatan."
He added that Rostropovich had recovered well from fifth place behind Cox Plate, behind Winx.
"He has never been asked to do so fast," said Comerford.
"He wants a mile and a half more, and at the next start he will be two miles with eight rollers (51 kg) on his back, which will be a big difference for him.
"There is a nice gap to the Melbourne Cup and he's well out of the race.
"The next morning, he licked his pot, he took the race well and it's a good springboard for the Melbourne Cup."
Meanwhile, Duretto remains under a cloud of injury despite inconclusive leg scans.
Racing Victoria stewards stated that the scans conducted at the Equine Center at the University of Melbourne did not present any identifiable problem with the horse.
It was decided to keep Duretto at the Equine Center on Tuesday night and to make further examinations on Wednesday. Fourth in the Caulfield Cup, Duretto was lame at the left forearm after a gallop at the track at Werribee last Saturday.
Wednesday's test results will determine whether Duretto is in a position to become the final acceptor of the Melbourne Cup, amounting to $ 7.3 million next Tuesday.
Duretto, who was paid as second goaltender for the Melbourne Cup on Monday, has been restricted to boxing for the past three days.
Team Williams does not fear the number of injured in the Cup
AFTER the overabundance of 2016, when Macedon Lodge had six Melbourne Cup riders – and was delivering the quinella – next week, Team Williams will continue their third consecutive Cup win with perhaps only two riders.
Rekindling and Johannes Vermeer, two of the stars of last spring, are the two biggest victims and should not fight until next autumn.
Rekindling and Johannes Vermeer missed critical work in the winter because of slight setbacks and the interruption meant that neither horse nor the other would be ready to compete in the spring feature films of the season. .
Co-owner Nick Williams said the two horses had only a 30% chance of showing up at the Sandown Cup meeting next month.
"They are both fine, but I would say that they have a 70% chance of not running and a 30% chance of running," he said.
The only two guaranteed riders from the stable are the Yucatan's favorite and fellow compatriot The Cliffsofmoher.
Midway through, he could strengthen the team at the Macedon Lodge's Cup, but would need to win the Lexus Stakes (Hotham Handicap) at Flemington on Saturday to break into the 24-horse pack.
Reflecting on the rate of attrition, Williams said, "It's horrible, but you know you have good years and bad years.
"It's the game, is not it? You can not do anything about it.
"People often forget that we ran a double, but we also ran last and last but it's not that easy.
"But if we can have two horses that go well, that would be great."
Even if the spell was released, Williams hopes that the Yucatan, winner of Herbert Power Stakes, can greet Tuesday after a brilliant gallop Tuesday.
"They look OK this morning, they seem to have worked well," he said.
"I hope they are doing well this afternoon, they continue, week in and week out.
"The horses are in order but how they will run, God only knows.
"We just have to hope that if TJ (Comerford) and his team can get them there, they can run well."
Williams said the dramatic progress of Yucatan in Herbert Power was a surprise.
"We thought it would run well but not like that," he says.
"Nobody in their minds could expect that.
"If I expected someone to participate in the races, some of those people in white suits would have had to remove them."
Williams said last year 's Cup favorite, Marmelo, was a threat.
"I think Marmelo is doing very well, he would circle around him," Williams said. "Magic Circle is obviously fine, but Marmelo seems to be doing particularly well."
