One-shot deadly charges brought to manslaughter

A man accused of an attack of a fatal blow against a Perth train saw his load strengthened.

The victim died 10 months after the badault.

Today, his attacker has been brought to court – the relatives of the victim who has said his last farewells.

Antoine Forrest-Yarran was to be sentenced today for this attack.

He pleaded guilty to causing serious bodily harm, but his victim, Laoa Faafua, died two weeks ago. So, today, instead of being convicted, Forrest-Yarran has seen his charge go on to manslaughter.

Mr. Faafua was returning home after an evening in January after being struck as a result of an altercation with Forrest-Yarran, a man he did not know.

Mr. Faafua spent 10 months in the hospital. He was unable to speak or eat. He died a little over two weeks ago after a brain hemorrhage.

"From the first day until his last breath, he was still fighting," said the victim's brother, Mose Faafua.

"He is resting now. He is well placed. "

It was an extremely moving day for the Faafua family.

Mr. Faafua's funeral took place today. The family was fighting for the load to be improved.

Forrest-Yarran will be back in court next Wednesday.
