For a man who has climbed twice nine winners in the four days of Flemington's spring carnival, a single, unadorned victory at Melbourne Cup Day would not normally be a big cause of celebration.

But Tuesday's victory aboard the Legend Of Condor was a historic victory for Brett Prebble, his first winner since returning to Melbourne in August after 15 years in Hong Kong. And he made sure that everyone was aware of his celebrations when he was crossing the line.

"It was a good feeling," said Prebble after weighing. "It's been a while since I did not win.

"It's a bit of a highs and lows for now. I like to win. I did not lose the pbadion and I told them that I still have fire in my stomach. "

Starting at $ 7, Legend Of Condor ($ 7) is a little too much for Feared Eyes ($ 12) on arrival and as they cross the finish line, Prebble rises in the irons and tip the crowd on both sides of the track.

Prebble is extremely proud of his achievements in 1999 and 2000 when he recorded a record of nine wins in four days at Flemington and he noted that in his absence, his record remained intact.

"No one has come close for 15 years since I left, so you can see how difficult it is," he said.

Of course, Prebble made many trips-hit-offs to carnivals in Australia while he resided in Hong Kong, especially in 2012 when he linked Green Moon to a Melbourne Cup victory for his owner Lloyd Williams.

Moments after Prebble's victory for coach Gerald Ryan, the commissioners announced that Flemington's track had been turned into Soft 7 after constant rain forced it into the Heavy chain after nearly 50 millimeters of rain since 7:30 am.
