Prince Harry and Meghan Markle holding hands

As soon as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle released their love story last year, it was clear that they were not afraid to show their PDA. And these manifestations of affection have continued since Meghan officially became a king two months ago.

"They're not afraid to hold hands, it does not bother them to show their emotions," Mark Stewart, veteran royal photographer, tells People in this week's cover story

Harry and Meghan walked hand-in-hand to the Invictus Games in Toronto in September 2017 (their first public event!). The timing was very important for the royal fans as members of the royal family (like Harry's brother, Prince William and Kate Middleton) rarely show PDAs – especially on official outings.

These moments of intimacy were exposed to almost every event at which they participated together (apart from their appearance alongside the Queen!).

"Meghan is usually cunning, and Harry is the same," says Dickie Arbiter, former palace spokesman, at PEOPLE. "Harry has always been tactile."

"While Prince Harry and Meghan stand hold hands is atypical for royal commitments, it 's an apparently welcome gesture to show the unity and celebration of their commitment period, "royal Myka Meier, expert in label, founder and director of Beaumont Etiquette, told PEOPLE. "There is no protocol that says they can not show affection about official commitments, and this gesture will make them tellable and kind to the public."

"Meghan and Prince Harry hold hands with a royal commitment is a refreshing modern approach to their new role both as a couple and as representatives of the royal family."
