QANTAS will start the first direct flights between Adelaide and Uluru from March 31 next year.

The flights will operate twice a week with the airline’s Boeing 737 aircraft.

The direct flights will cut travel times to Ayer’s Rock Airport by around three hours.

In the past few years the Qantas Group has added new routes and more flights to Uluru from Brisbane and Sydney and now Adelaide and also Darwin.

Flights will be available to book from Wednesday.

The launch sale offers fares from Adelaide to Uluru from $299 one way, available until November 21.

Qantas domestic chief executive Andrew David noted the move comes as the Field of Light art exhibition, which has been credited with boosting tourism to Uluru, has been extended until December 31, 2020.

“Uluru is in more demand from international and interstate tourists than we have seen in a long time,” Mr David said.

“As the national carrier, we’re are proud to promote the Territory to travellers from around the world and in our own backyard, which is so vital to the local economy.”

The flights will operate on Wednesday and Saturday each week — QF754 departing Adelaide at 8am, arriving at Ayers Rock Airport (Uluru) at 10:10am, and QF757 departing Ayders Riock Airport (Uluru) at 4:20pm, arriving at Adelaide at 6:15pm.
