Wrestling fans are used to telling twists, but the "Monday Night Raw" audience, not to mention the millions of viewers at home, had a staggering dose of reality. Speaking from the ring center, World Champion, Roman Reigns, announced that he was moving away from the WWE to resume his fight against leukemia.
The 33-year-old wrestler began his remarks by telling the crowd at Dunkin's Donuts Center in Providence, RI, that he felt he owed "all excuses." "And" a workaholic, "Reigns said," these are all lies. "
"It's a lie, because I actually call my name Joe and I've been living with leukemia for eleven years," he said. "Unfortunately, he's back."
Reigns, whose birth name is Leati Joseph "Joe" Anoa'i, said his illness prevented him from fulfilling his role as WWE Champion and that he would be forced to give up his belt. He added that he hoped to be able to overcome the situation because after being diagnosed for the first time at the age of 22, he was "very quickly" able to "put him into remission".
"Sometimes life puts you in trouble, and for now, the best thing to do is go home, focus on my family and my health," said Reigns. "But I want to clarify one thing: this is it's a retirement speech.
"Because having finished badping leukemia [butt] again, I'm going home. "
Reigns was not the most popular WWE star, in part because many fans felt his rise was pushed by the company. However, his comments on Monday caused an avalanche of favorable chants, while other wrestlers made their feelings known online.
I am abroad and I have just heard the terrible news about @WWERomanReigns and his battle against leukemia. Totally shocked. Uce, you're a tough bastard and a real fighter, and you're going to beat that.

Our work gives us the ability to portray larger-than-life characters with superhuman qualities and characteristics.
After hearing his story, it's very obvious that Joe Anoa's is a superhero as much as "Roman Reigns".#ThankYouRoman

A former college football player at Georgia Tech, Reigns is a Samoan heir to his father, who was himself a professional wrestler. He also has several other close relatives who are or were in the industry, and his family tree includes The Usos and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
After testing with some NFL teams, Reigns spent the 2008 season with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League. Subsequently, he embarked on professional wrestling, quickly integrated into the WWE and, after cleaning up in smaller circuits, became a familiar figure for the country's fans in 2012.
Reigns was ready to put his world belt on the line during the Triple Threat match against Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman during the WWE Crown Jewel controversy in Saudi Arabia on Nov. 2. These two stars will now have a confrontation for the title.
Reigns applauded Monday when he told the crowd, "I'm going to beat that, and I'll come back, so you'll see me very soon." He thanked the fans for helping him make his "dreams a reality" strongly to his reigning character, both positively and negatively, to whom they chanted back, "Thank you, Roman! Thank you, Novel!"
Reigns then put his belt in the ring and climbed up the entry ramp, slapping the hands of the fans along the way. He met his long-time partners in "The Shield", Dean Ambrose and a visibly upset Seth Rollins, who then shared an emotional hug and disappeared behind the scenes.
