The leader of Aum, the cult of the Japanese apocalypse who led a sarin gas attack in the Tokyo subway in 1995, was executed.
Chizuo Matsumoto, who was called Shoko Asahara, was the first of 13 to be hanged for attacks, reports NHK public broadcaster
The Aum Shinri Kyo, or Aum Supreme Truth worship, which blended Buddhist and Hindu meditation with apocalyptic teachings, staged a series of crimes, including simultaneous attacks of sarin gas in Tokyo subways at rush hour in March 1995. Sarin, a nerve gas, was developed by the Nazis . The attacks left 13 dead and more than 6,000 injured.

On March 20, 1995, plastic bags perforated deadly nerve agent neurotoxic gas sarin. They had been pierced with umbrellas and thrown between the bodies, standing side by side.
It was rush hour in a crowded subway of Tokyo.
Sect members boarded crowded trains carrying umbrella surgical masks. They immediately fled, but were greeted by waiting drivers.
In all, more than 4,000 people were injured by coming into direct contact with liquid sarin or being exposed to gas – a substance so lethal that only one adult.
