But this is not for a new handheld
- by Sammy Barker
A patent filed by Sony Interactive Entertainment and published this week suggests that the Japanese giant is working on a successor of the PlayStation Vita, but despite the documentation describing a new product similar to a cartridge, it has absolutely nothing to do with a hypothetical handheld – instead, this is a toy named Sony Toio, released abroad last year.
Many had believed (hoped?) That the company was actually aligning a successor to its portable line, since the PS Vita should be officially shut down next year. But the patent shows a cartridge identical to that used in the aforementioned product, and is therefore completely independent.
The manufacturer has already admitted that handhelds were "a way to provide gaming experiences" in the past, but the chances of it creating a successor to PS Vita seem slim at this stage, especially when it press the PlayStation 5 behind the scenes. . Of course, a new laptop is not impossible if the circumstances are right – it just seems unlikely at the moment. And this patent is unfortunately not proof of anything.
