South Australians spend the least on Christmas festivities than all other major states.
A new report has revealed each South Australian spends $1,250, which is less than Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia and Queensland.
The Finder.com.au survey of over 2000 people found that Australians plan to spend $1,325 on average this Christmas, meaning the collective spending of the nation will reach $25 billion.
Australians spend the most on presents at $464 per person, while travel is a close second at $444.
The third biggest expense come Christmas time is alcohol, at around $131 per person.
Finder.com.au finance expert Kate Browne says with only 6 weeks to go until Christmas, it’s easy to lose track of your finances.
“Christmas is a notoriously expensive time of year but just because it’s the silly season doesn’t mean you should throw all financial sense out the window,” Ms Browne said.
Overall, women spend significant more on Christmas celebrations than men – $1406 against $1241.
