Sydney weather statistics reveal storm ravaged suburb

It does not seem like much, but 23 kilometers was all that separated the soggy suburbs and the one that escaped relatively unscathed during the stormy Sydney storms.

Rainfall data from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) revealed that the flood of yesterday had spilled more than a month of rain on parts of the city of Harbor in a few hours.

The figures reveal that Sydney's lower north shore was in line of sight, where Mosman was flooded with 130 millimeters of rain between 6 am and noon at the height of the rain.

Observatory Hill, near The Rocks, recorded 111 mm during the same period, while Chatswood was the wettest with 107 millimeters.

The Gauge Sans Souci public school in southern Sydney – 23 km from the weather station Mosman, flying bird – recorded one of the lowest totals, with about 13 mm.

Canterbury, just 17 km from Mosman, received 20 mm.

The data were extracted from automatic weather stations that provide hourly, three hour and 24 hour precipitation figures.

"Mini Cyclone" at Chatswood

South Sydney was spared by the most adverse weather conditions, with places like Box Hill (25 mm) among the lowest totals.

However, these falls still accounted for more than a quarter of the 83.6 mm average recorded in November in Harbor City.

Chatswood has not only been inundated with rain for more than a month, it has also been badped by devastating winds that some have termed "mini cyclone".

An office building had entire windows sucked in and thrown aside while the winds were 70 kilometers at the hour.

A 14-year-old boy died as a result of a two-car collision in Thornleigh, in the northwest of the city, and a New South Wales Emergency Service (ESS) volunteer. he collapsed and died during the storm.

The SES has received more than 2,000 calls for help during the flood and workers are still cleaning up today.

Ausgrid said hundreds of homes and businesses were still without electricity, while two of Sydney 's airport runways that had been closed yesterday reopened.
