SHELBY COUNTY, TX — A 21-year-old Texas man has been charged with attempted capital murder and attempted badual performance of a child stemming from behavior he allegedly engaged in on the dark web, which is a portion of the internet only accessible by using specific software. Alexander Nathan Barter allegedly authored a post imploring anyone interested in having him commit necrophilia and cannibalism to email him, news station KTRE reported.

An undercover agent with the Texas Department of Public Safety saw the post and responded to Barter while pretending to be a father with a daughter.

“Nice! I’m in East Texas. How old is your daughter? Can we kill her?” was one of the messages Barter allegedly sent to the undercover officer this month. “”I’m not going to change my mind about this. I really want to do this.”

Barter allegedly arranged to meet the undercover officer posing as an interested father on Oct. 19, KTRE added. When Barter left his home, he was met by law enforcement, KTRE said. Barter had a plastic trash bag and knife on him.

Barter is being held at the Shelby County Jail.
